Behavioural Analysis 2026 brings together international practitioners, researchers, and operational leaders to explore how behavioural science is shaping modern approaches to security, public protection, safeguarding, and risk management.

For members of the International Council of Museum’s Security (ICOM SECURITY), the programme offers valuable insight into understanding human behaviour in complex public environments — supporting safer museums, galleries, heritage sites, and cultural institutions.

Day One opens with a session exploring behaviour detection across different operational settings. While behaviour detection has traditionally been associated with transport and law enforcement environments, the principles increasingly apply to cultural institutions seeking to balance openness, accessibility, visitor experience, and security. Presentations will examine behavioural indicators, human factors in threat identification, and approaches to recognising concerning behaviour in dynamic public spaces.

The conference also includes a presentation from the spokesman for one of the most harrowing museums in Europe – Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Additional sessions examine the relationship between behavioural science and operational decision making, including cognitive bias, credibility assessment, evolving threat profiles, and the unintended consequences of intervention strategies.

Other highlights include:

• Questioning & Deception Detection – evidence based interviewing, ethical engagement, and understanding the limitations of behavioural assumptions.
• Artificial Intelligence & the Role of Technology – the opportunities and risks associated with AI supported decision making, surveillance, and credibility assessment.
• Profiling Vulnerable Individuals – recognising behavioural indicators linked to exploitation, vulnerability, safeguarding, and responsible intervention.
• Inside & Online: Concerning Behaviours – understanding insider risk, manipulation, and behavioural warning signs across physical and digital environments.

The conference will open and conclude with keynote addresses from, respectively, Figen Murray OBE and The Rt Hon Dame Penny Mordaunt DBE PC.
